Chalk Fest at the Taste of Des Plaines

Chicago Chalk Champ, Shaun Hays, will be at the Taste of Des Plaines on Saturday, June 15, beginning at 12 noon, creating one of his unique pieces. Shaun’s appearance is sponsored by the Des Plaines Arts Council. Shaun is a freehand artist who pushes the boundaries of street and chalk art. See this amazing chalk art work come to life. Art Moves Des Plaines

The Call for Works for the 2019 pop-up exhibition in Metro Square is now open. The opening reception begins at 5 PM Friday, June 28.

Des Plaines History Center Mural

The Des Plaines Arts Council, in conjunction with the Des Plaines History Center and the City of Des Plaines, have commissioned an outdoor mural by artist Jason Watts on the south wall of Des Plaines History Center building, located at 781 Pearson Street, Des Plaines. The mural is nearly completed. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at Saturday, June 15 at 2:30 PM during the Taste of Des Plaines.

2019 Youth Scholarship Program

The Arts Council awards scholarships in two categories. Students currently in grades 4 through 8 are eligible for a maximum of $500, while students in grades 9 through 12 are eligible for a maximum of $1000.

The following scholarship recipients will be presented at the June 3 City Council meeting:

The Des Plaines Arts Council meets on the second Tuesday of each month (except August and December) at 7:30 am at the Prairie Lakes Community Center, 515 E. Thacker St., Des Plaines.
